Sun Devil Wrestling Campers and Parents,

On behalf of our wrestling program we look forward to seeing you next month for wrestling camp. Here are a few details that you’ll want to know before you arrive. After reading this information, if you have any questions, please contact:

ALL CAMPERS

Check In Process For Camp:

All resident and commuter campers will need to check in at the Hyatt House Tempe/ASU. Check in is between 11:00 am – 1:00pm on June 21 or June 25 depending on which camp you are attending. All resident campers will stay at the Hyatt House and will receive their rooming assignment when they check in. Campers will be three to a room. Save time and know who are going to room with by coming together in a group of three to check in. Also, once you check in, you may want to eat lunch somewhere off campus since your first camp session is at 2:00-4:00 pm and will not eat your first camp meal until dinner time after the first session. 

Room Check Process for Resident Campers

Team/Technique/Girls Camp

  1. First, campers will check in by team in alphabetical order by who your high school or middle school team name.
  2. Teams will get in groups of three and then placed in rooms. This will be your camp roommates. To have the best chance of success of being put together in rooms, come together in your group of three.  All rooming assignments are final.
  3. Next, if you came by yourself with no team or roommates, you will still check in alphabetically by high school or middle school team name (not your last name), and placed in a room by groups three. Roommates will selected based on age, as best as possible.
  4. If you don’t have a roommate, we’ll assign one for you.

*When you arrive, we will have signs posted explaining the check in process. Follow the signs for specific camp check in information. 

Intensive Camp

Come directly to the registration table for intensive camp and receive your room keys.

Parking

The hotel provides parking at $15.00 per day. There are parking meters on the streets in selected areas.  Please park in designated parking spots.  Coaches, please park vans in there.  

First Camp Meeting:

Our first camp meeting is at 2:00 pm on the first day of camp at the Verde Dickey Dome which

is the white indoor bubble practice facility located on Rural Road and 6th Street. We will leave at 1:30 pm from the Hyatt Hotel lobby to walk to the White Dome if you are not sure how to get there the first time.  

Food

Resident Campers – All meals are provided, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, starting with dinner on the first day of camp. The last meal is lunch on the last day of camp.

Commuter Campers – Commuters will receive lunch and dinner only. Eat breakfast at home before you come to camp for the day. The first camp meal is dinner on the first day of camp and lunch is the last meal on the last day of camp.

Airport Transportation

Since the Phoenix airport is two miles from the ASU campus, we do not provide airport transportation, but Lyft, and Taxi’s are readily available. There is also a light rail train that goes from the Phoenix airport to Sun Devil Stadium which is approximately 200 yards from the Hyatt House, which is where wrestling camp housing is. The website is www.valleymetro.org. The drive from the airport to the hotel is approximately 5-10 minutes.

Attendance

Attendance is mandatory and done at every session and activity. We will also conduct spot attendance checks 24 hours a day for resident campers, including room checks every night. We will provide 24 hour a day supervision at all locations. Campers are not allowed to leave campus while they are attending camp. They may only leave the camp with a parent or guardian.

Medical

If you have a medical emergency during camp, call 911. We will have Certified Athletic Trainers ATC onsite.  If you have a medical need, report it to your counselor and the ATC immediately.  If you have any prior injuries before camp, please report those at the first session to your counselor and to the athletic trainer.  Athletic training is onsite for all sessions.  If you are in need of immediate medical attention, notify your counselor immediately. There are several 24 hour emergency care facilities close to campus.

Camp Store

We will have a camp store open at check in, check out, and every evening to purchase clothing, merchandise, snacks, drinks, and pizza at night. We will accept credit/debit cards, cash, and Venmo. Please give them extra spending money, at least $100, for snacks and drinks or food while they are here.

Housing

All resident campers, you may not change rooms without permission.  All room assignments are final. Room changes are not allowed without permission of the Sun Devil Staff.

Dorm Check Out

All rooms will be inspected before check in and check out. Please report any damage in the room at the time you check in. This will be the only way to avoid incurring any room damage charges. On the last day of camp, we will conduct a room inspection at check out with your counselor on your floor. Please have your room clean and ready to go for inspection so you can accelerate your check out when you ready to leave. We will provide garbage bags and trash cans to help you with clean up. Any damage will be paid for prior to leaving the property.

Commuters Only

Daily Drop off and Pick up Time

  • We will take attendance shortly before 9:00 am each day so commuters should arrive at the white dome (Verde Dickey Dome) by 8:30-8:45 am to put their wrestling shoes on and be ready to go. Approximate pick up time at the end of the day is 8:30 pm at the white dome as well. This is where all wrestling practice sessions will be conducted.
  • Commuters will receive lunch and dinner only. Eat breakfast at home before you come to camp for the day.
  • In between sessions after eating, you will able to relax in the wrestling practice facility or the hotel. You may not leave campus. 
  • If you would like to shower or clean up between the sessions, you can use the ASU wrestling locker room to clean up. Please ask your assigned counselor that you are working with each day to arrange a time to go shower or clean up.

Pick Up When Camp is Over

You can pick your camper up at the White Dome after the conclusion of the Takedown Tournament and the Team Awards on the last day of camp. That time is approximately at 3-4 pm on June 24 or June 28, depending on the camp you are enrolled.

The camp store will be open after the camp is over during camp check out.
